Venice is preparing to host the wedding of the century. The city will be bustling, and in the coming days, it will be even more crowded than usual. All this excitement is for an event that promises to be truly unprecedented. The number of private aircraft heading to Venice for weddings is approximately 90. More than 200 international celebrities are arriving, including Lady Gaga, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bill Gates, and Shakira. From Sir Elton John to Barbra Streisand, no one will miss this event, which promises to resemble a true summit of the elite world.

Venezia is incredibly bustling.

The media has reported that Jeff Bezos, in marrying Lauren Sánchez, is indeed renting out the entire city of Venice. The cost of the event reaches billions of euros, which, for him, is comparable to what we would pay for a cup of coffee. The security measures will be outstanding. In addition, there isn’t much availability in Venice; from boats to yachts, hotels to restaurants, the city is completely booked.

Who will be the chef for the wedding celebration?

It will be quite intriguing to find out who will take on the role of chef to cater for such a distinguished gathering. Similarly, for George Clooney‘s historic wedding a few years back, the event management agency responsible was the London-based Lanza & Baucina. Currently, we have no additional information, and only the top-secret directive has been disclosed. However, we are confident that the city of Venice will seize the opportunity to showcase its culinary delights in the Bezos’ wedding menu. Therefore, we can expect to see a selection of beloved Venetian dishes featured at the event.

The World’s Gaze Turns to Venice

As Venice gears up for the media spotlight during the upcoming celebration, activists from “No Space for Bezos” are organizing protests against the event. They are concerned that the festivities could exacerbate the issues associated with mass tourism, which has already drawn significant criticism. In order to address these concerns, the mayor of Venice has stated that the situation will not be worse than that of the Mostra del Cinema (Venice Film Festival) or the G7 summit.

What Dishes Will Be Featured at the Bezos Wedding Celebration?

As of now, the specific recipes in the menu for the Bezos wedding party remain a mystery. However, as we eagerly anticipate the culinary delights that will be served, including the renowned chef’s name, we can make some educated guesses. For this enchanting celebration, we can expect at least three of the following dishes to make an appearance. Here’s a curated list of the stars of Venetian cuisine: recipes to savor at least once in your lifetime.

Sarde in Saor

This is a delightful dish featuring sardines with a tangy-sweet flavor, derived from a combination of vinegar, onions, raisins, and pine nuts. It is commonly enjoyed as an appetizer or a cichetto (a traditional Venetian snack). The cuisine of Venice wholeheartedly embraces onions, which are a staple ingredient in the region’s culinary traditions.

Risi e Bisi

For rice enthusiasts, Venice offers a delightful treat: risi e bisi, a classic dish rooted in farmers’ cuisine. This dish combines rice, peas, bacon, and parsley, showcasing a unique flavor profile. It is particularly enjoyed in spring, when fresh peas are at their peak. Additionally, risi e bisi is a traditional meal celebrated on April 25th, coinciding with St. Mark’s Day, the patron saint of Venice.

Bigoli in Salsa

This dish showcases Venetian tradition, always bursting with flavor, featuring a delightful combination of onions and anchovies. The bigoli, crafted from eggs and 00 flour, resemble spaghetti in their form, yet their shape is reminiscent of Roman tonnarelli. As a traditional specialty of Venice, the sauce made from onions and anchovies elevates this meal to a wonderfully savory and delicious experience.

Polenta e Schie

The Schie are a local variety of shrimp, and when paired with polenta, they create a delightful fusion dish. Often enjoyed as a main course or a unique offering, the portion size can determine its role. The contrasting flavors of the polenta and the small, sea-flavored shrimp make this recipe an essential part of Venetian cuisine.

Baccalà Mantecato alla Veneziana

Baccalà mantecato, or creamed cod fish, is truly a delicacy. Ingredients: a blend of oil, pepper, garlic, bay leaf, and lemon. First, the cod fish is soaked in water for 24 hours. Then it boils in a mixture of milk and water for approximately 20 minutes. After cooking, the fish is mashed and combined with the other ingredients. Typically served spread on bread crostini in the renowned Venetian bacari (traditional Venetian wine bars/bistros), it’s a must-try during happy hour!

Fegato alla Veneziana

Venetian-style liver is a dish that delivers an incredibly intense flavor. While it may not suit everyone’s palate, it undeniably stands as a classic of Venetian cuisine. This dish is a true representation of the culinary artistry found in the cuisine of the less fortunate. First, white onions are sautéed. Next, after a quick cooking of the liver meat, the ingredients come together. The combination of these two tastes creates a harmonious and balanced dish. Alone, or in pairing with with other creative ingredients for a delightful experience.

Frittole

Frittole are delightful fried dough balls, typically featuring pine nuts and raisins. Often coming with custard cream or zabaione. Although these sweet treats are a season carnival tradition, they are so popular that you can find them available throughout the year. Their irresistible flavor makes it nearly impossible to enjoy just one!

Zaeti Bussolai Buranelli

This is probalby, the cookie symbol of Venice. Those are cookies are lightly spicy, typical in autumn. For breakfast or at the snack time, are perfect companions of the cappuccino. Those cookies are tipycal of the mountain zone in Veneto, where traditionally, corn raises. Amongst the ingredients, 00 flour, eggs, butter, raisins and lemon zest. These biscotti are a treat: we expect to see those included in the Bezos wedding menu.

Crema Fritta

Fried custard, known in Venice as “the diamond of the Doge,” is an irresistible sweet treat, especially enjoyed during winter, Christmas, and Carnival. In comparison to traditional crema, this recipe incorporates more starch and flour, resulting in a denser mixture that is ideal for frying in diamond squares. The cream scent is aromatic lemon.

The Wine Bar Tradition

Wine bars in Venice are a cherished institution. Long before the rise of food tours and pub crawls, Venetians enjoyed wandering from one bacaro to another, seeking social connections and community while embracing a slower lifestyle. There are many reasons to look for a wine bar in Venice. Firstly, Wine bars are plentiful, secondly local wines are exceptional. Least: the Spritz was invented in Venice!
